The series highlights the flaws in the search for the murderer who terrorised the north of England in the late 1970s and shines a spotlight on the victims’ stories.
When tackling this notorious case for TV, screenwriter George Kay, best known as the creator of Netflix’s ‘Lupin’, aimed to “open up the scope of it to include some of the stuff you don’t normally see in true crime drama”. Featuring an all-star cast including Toby Jones, David Morrissey, Katherine Kelly, Daniel Mays and Jill Halfpenny, and directed by award-winning director Lewis Arnold, ‘The Long Shadow’ promises to delve deep into the complexities of the investigation while delivering gripping performances that resonate with viewers, episode after episode.
